I chose Fernando Zóbel, a Spanish Filipino painter who is internationally famous for his abstract expressionist paintings.  He is famous for his series of paintings namely the Saetas and Serie Negra. His paintings may have simple elements but they give off a strong sense of emotion. Some may see it as scribbles of lines but I see his paintings in a different manner. Each stroke and line is calculated as if he envisioned it in his head before he actually paints it on the canvas. They usually give me different kinds of interpretation. I always wonder what emotions he has when he is doing his piece. His paintings amazed me because even if he is only using long controlled lines and calligraphy brush strokes, he managed to express his emotions and subjects really well. He is not afraid of using black and white color schemes to express the subject in his paintings. Many may criticize his paintings as meaningless, but for me his style evokes emotion and passion.I also like that he uses some pop of colors to make his work stand out more. I appreciate the purity and simplicity of the subjects in his paintings. Compared to other artists, his paintings are refreshing and disruptive at the same time because he sticks to his personal style.
